Macro Beauty Project

A couple of months ago I decided that it was time to take on a new project and try something new.  For reasons I can’t explain (besides that they look super cool), I decided to try some Macro Beauty stuff, or whatever you want to call it.  I can tell you now that I’m having an absolute great time with this new project!  Believe it or not, I can actually get a little burnt out of shooting my day-to-day style of photography at times. Half naked girls lying or standing there? Who wants to see that?!?! 😉   It’s amazing that money can easily get a photographer to forget what it’s like to be an actual “artist.”

Below is my first attempt. I was using an 85mm lens with this image that only had a minimum focus distance of about 3 feet, therefore making it really tough to envision what the final image would look like.  I knew going into the shoot that I would need to depend and rely on some post cropping and rotating.  In all truth, I was a little upset and worried that after 3 hours of shooting that I didn’t get the “shot.”  So after a little cropping, rotating and retouching… Here you go.  I would say that I’m pretty happy with the final results!

Macro Beauty Attempt #1

Black and white macro beauty

How I lit the shot?

Quite simple actually. Just one Phottix Indra500 TTL with a gridded Phottix Spartan Beauty Dish and two white bounce reflectors.

On this next one I decided to get fancy and add some pearls.  Totally had fun with this one!

Macro Beauty Attempt #2

Now for my most recent and latest attempt… But this time I borrowed a 100mm macro lens from a friend and included some professional makeup by Tori Apodaca!  So much easier this go-around! And who doesn’t love some Granny Smith Apples?!? It’s fake by the way. 😉
